WHAT DO WE MEAN BY “TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSLATION”?

 

The concept of "Technological Translation" consists in the redesign of obsolete electronics using advanced components easily available on the market with the use of existing structural parts such as, for example, antennas, cabinets, rooms, bases, etc.

The area of ​​interest is constituted by the Naval Military Electronic Systems, 90% of them have severe limitations due to obsolescence and are now operationally unusable, with a residual life time of the naval hulls and related engines, estimated at 15-20 years.

The possible alternatives consist in the acquisition of new electronic systems, which would also mean revolutionizing the ship structure, or in the acquisition of the entire new naval unit; in both cases at very high costs.

THE THIRD WAY, WHY IS IT CONVENIENT?

 

Technological Translation is the third way between "Great Maintenance" and "Everything New", it allows you to project the operational efficiency of complex systems for a further 15-20 years with latest generation technologies, and it can also improve, where possible, the operational performance of the systems, perfecting the logistic approach and the MTBF.

It allows to have significantly lower ship stops compared to a refurbishment with new systems and to reuse rooms, cabinets, racks and bases of the systems already existing, thus avoiding to regain the qualification certifications

The third way allows to obtain lower costs compared to new systems by about 50% with a market basin based on naval units of 20-30 years of life.
